VALVE PLATE replacement for Aeolian "cross valves". The original soft aluminum stampings have been a curse to everyone who has tried to work on this type. The original valves cannot be resurfaced because the center corners spring upwards with pressure of resurfacing, and less metal is taken off the tips of the cross; whereas if it was perfectly round, as in most conventional valve plates, the valve seat surface would be uniformly rigid, and resurfacing them would not be a problem. Therefore, an exact replacement was manufactured, using a circle to seat against the valve leather instead of the cross shape. It is felt that this replacement is better than the conventional design even though the cross type could have been made from a heavy gauge steel. The new replacement is identical in size to the original, with a 1/2" circle opening (#1228), sunken 3/16", for clearing the 1-1/8" valve well. Made from stainless steel. This part was available from Player Piano Co. in 2001 for $3.00 each or $225.00/100. We are offering them for the SAME PRICE!!! We also offer the valve plate with a 7/16" opening (#1228A). They were used in systems that didn't use cross valves. (NOTE: As of 5/7/24 there are only 100 of the #1228 plates left. IF these parts are made again, they will be made out of aluminum.) Shown below are the two plates that are now available. The plate on the left has a hole diameter of 1/2" and the one on the right has a hole diameter of 7/16". The one on the left is shown with the #1226B blotter paper gasket, which is available on the Gaskets Page -click here.

Since "Player-Care" is an internet business, I prefer that we correspond via E-Mail (click here to fill out the 'Request Form'). However, if I'm not in the middle of some other activity, you can reach me at 732-840-8787. But please understand that during the hours from 8AM-5PM EST (Mon-Sat), I'm generally quite busy. So, I probably won't answer the phone. If you get the answering machine, please leave a detailed message stating the reason for your call. Also, repeat your name and phone number clearly and distinctly. By necessity, I prioritize everything in my life. And, if you call and just leave your name and number, and ask me to call you back, it might be a day or two before I return your call. Why? Because I don't know why you want me to call and I might not be prepared to assist you in an effective and efficient manner. If you leave me an E-Mail address (which I prefer), spell it out phonetically. The more you do to help me, the more I can help you in return. Don't rush. You have four minutes to record your message. |
